CATCHY TITLE

DIDDY DODOS

£35 GBP

These teeny tiny dodos are honestly too cute for words!

This listing is for a diddy dodo with a grey face.

A lot of my work focuses on the fantastical and mythical, so it seemed quite natural to branch out into dodos. Who could resist those vacant stares and adorable chubby tummies! Why do these dodos have bows and bells? ...Well, why not? I just love putting bows and bells on teeny creatures.

Diddy Dodos make thoughtful and pretty little gifts for everyone who loves cute things and dodos. As each is handmade they also make a fantastic collectors item.

There are two colours in this set, grey-face and yellow-face. I couldn’t decide which I liked best! The grey-faced diddy dodos have pale pink bows and silver bells, the yellow-faced diddy dodos have ginger bows and golden bells.

Diddy Dodos measure just 3.5” (that’s 9cm) tall, are weighted with steel shot for stability and have been hand-made from start to finish by me, in my studio in the highlands of Scotland.
I started by gathering lots of material on dodos – reference images, photos of the taxidermied specimen and drawings by other artists. Sketching the rough idea for the dodos with a few colour notes helps me decide which style I think will work best, then I do a to-scale drawing. From this I sculpted the feet, wings and head, then made moulds of each part from silicone. The resin was dyed to the correct colour, then the parts cast, sanded, details painted and finally they are varnished.

After the hard parts have been finished I then work on the soft side. The bodies are cut, sewn, filled with steel shot and then stuffed. The little pom-pom tails are made from mohair wool and wound loosely to mimic the fluffy curly tail of a real dodo! The parts are all assembled, using tiny stitches and careful glueing, then finally the little bow and bell are added and the eyes varnished.
The whole process takes a few hours.

I produce pieces like this in batches when I am asked to by three people or more. If you would like to see more dodos then please send me a message! The more feedback I get on my work the more likely I am to improve and make more. :) If you have any suggestions for a creature I could make next then please feel free to drop me a line.

Thank you for looking!
